Why I travel with my kids as much as possible

Watching my kids experience new places and have new adventures has been the greatest part of my life.

Life gets hectic and routines get set but sometimes a family just needs a reset. I know this is 100% true for my family. I can always tell when my kids (or maybe its me) just needs a change of scenery. Even if we don't have a lot of time, just taking the kids even just an hour away for a quick weekend getaway can be a thrill of a lifetime for my kids. There is something so enchanting for a kid about staying in a new place and waking up to a new view. I now try and have something planned every month or 2 months. I definitely have been told that it’s like pavlov's dog and I have trained my kids to not know how to just chill and maybe there is some truth to it. However, they now are such great travel buddies and really have come understand the routine of it. They can help back their bags because they know what they need, they can navigate an airport and getting through security and they can handle longer flights and hectic layovers.

Of course it is still stressful and I have tons of moments questioning why we are getting on yet again another flight but I have never had a moment of regretting going somewhere because once you get there and you see the joy on the kids’ faces, it is always 100 percent worth it. My hope from the moment I decided to have kids was that they would want to spend time with me and they saw me as someone fun to be with. Not to say that I am looking for my kids to be my best friends but that they appreciate the parents we are and they see their time with mom and dad as fun and exciting and worthwhile. My husband likes to say we are spending the time and money now so our kids don’t stick us in a home when we are old and gray. For me it’s just that the bond that traveling together brings can be the greatest gift of all!
